Hillary Visits Bath Family Farm

by Rachel Kruer
5/16/2008 11:22:23 AM

Standing on the front porch of a multi-generational farm in Bath, South Dakota, Hillary Clinton illuminated the issues facing farmers and how she as president will not just talk about these problems -- she will solve them. Unlike Senator McCain, Hillary supports the Farm Bill and therefore the interest of farmers here in South Dakota.  This bill is the safety net that hardworking families need and deserve.  It will trigger the rural economy by investing more money into renewable energy and providing farmers with necessary resources to remain competitive. For more information on Hillary’s Rural Agenda, click here.

Dennis Jones, the owner of the farm, explained his own scare with bankruptcy over 20 years ago while introducing Senator Clinton. In 1976, Jones said his farm was $96,000 in debt due to a massive drought. Several years of paying off debt and a loan enabled Jones to recover and eventually expand his business. With Senator Clinton as president, Jones said his farm will be passed down to future generations.

Yesterday, Hillary proved she will be a champion for the farmers of South Dakota like she has been for the farmers of upstate New York. But before Hillary can fight for us, we need to fight for her.  We’re building a strong grassroots organization in Aberdeen and we need your help!

To learn more about how to get involved, stop by our office in Aberdeen this Saturday at 3pm for an open house.  CLICK HERE TO RSVP.  It will be a great opportunity to learn more about the campaign, meet the local staff, and learn how you can help Hillary win South Dakota.

Honk for Hillary in Yankton!

by Alex Agius

It’s been a very exciting week in Yankton and Vermillion, South Dakota. On Monday, a group of Hillary supporters gathered at the corner of 4th and Broadway and held Hillary signs, cheered, and waved during rush hour traffic. Yesterday we had another "Honk and Wave" in Vermillion on the corner of Dakota and Cherry. We all had a blast!! Judging from the number of honks and cheers, Yankton and Vermillion are both truly Hillary Country!

I want Hillary to be President because...

She has solutions that will work, and she doesn’t just say that she can do it, she will do it -- as future voters, we know that she will be able to do it. She has solutions for all the states and she has energy plans that we can trust will work. She wants to make sure that we study and incorporate new biofuels and new energy that can be used to power our cars and houses, and stop our dependence on foreign oil.

I got involved in the Hillary campaign because...

I thought that Hillary really could help the economy, help South Dakota, and that she was going to invest so much in the Midwest and across all of the country -- therefore she really should be the President of the United States. I believe she can beat John McCain, and she also has 30 plus years of government experience.

The first thing I did for the Hillary campaign was...

Emailed all of my family stories about Hillary's endorsements and helped in the campaign. I also came in to make calls, and have helped out a lot at the campaign office. I’ve just really been influenced by Hillary, and so that is why I am making these calls, and talking to these people.

The thing I like best about working for the Hillary campaign is...

All the campaign workers and supporters are so nice. Calling all of these people really gets me excited to help Hillary win the nomination and head to the White House to help lead this country in the right direction.

I am going to help Hillary win South Dakota between now and Primary Day by...

Making calls and doing all I can for the campaign including knocking on doors, rain or shine, to make sure that South Dakotans support Hillary in this election. I also plan on doing visibility rain or shine for the Hillary Clinton campaign. I am going to do a lot for Hillary because I want her in the White House representing America.

President Bill Clinton Visits Rapid City!

by Daphne Evans
5/12/2008 3:03:17 PM

Rapid City warmly welcomed President Bill Clinton on Saturday at Stevens High School. The crowd, expected to be only 500 or so, exceeded 1,500. Many educators, veterans, farmers, ranchers, nurses, students, and labor union members were in attendance, not to mention enthusiastic kids!

The former President touched upon Hillary’s plans to encourage the development of alternative energy sources, her health care plan to insure every American, and her plans to end the war in Iraq.

Said Darlene Short Bull, as quoted in the Rapid City Journal, “I think it was very uplifting… we have to vote for Hillary to get out of where we are in this country.”

Larry Stroschein, a rancher from Brown County, came all the way down to Rapid City to hear President Clinton speak. Also quoted in the Rapid City Journal he said “I always had really kind of been for her. I just really think she would do a great job for our country.”

To learn more about the campaign or to get involved in Rapid City, please contact Daphne Evans at 605-281-0393 or at devans@hillaryclinton.com. The Rapid City office is located at 2020 Jackson Blvd and is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

The Clinton campaign today announced the endorsement of 41 former South Dakota state legislators and constitutional officers. These officials, with over 330 years of combined experience in public service to the state of South Dakota, endorsed Hillary because of her readiness to serve on day one and her plans to jumpstart the economy and help consumers struggling with rising gas prices.

“After seven years of an Administration that favored the special interests at every turn, South Dakotans need a President who will stand with them,” said former State Representative Al Waltman. “Hillary Clinton has real solutions to our economic problems, to skyrocketing energy prices and to ending the war in Iraq, and she has the experience and resolve to make those plans a reality. Hillary is the candidate who can beat John McCain in the fall and start turning this country around on day one in the White House.”

The announcement came on the heels of visits to South Dakota from both Hillary and Former President Clinton over the past several days.

“Hillary Clinton has done more than give speeches – she has been achieving real results for working families for the past 35 years,” said former State Senator Judy Olson Duhamel. “Given the challenges we face, we need a President who is ready to hit the ground running and begin to turn our economy around and restore our standing in the world, and Hillary Clinton has the experience to do just that.”

“I am honored to receive the support of such a talented group of people who have dedicated their lives to public service,” Senator Clinton said. “These South Dakotans know what it takes to stand up for working families and I am proud they think I am best qualified for the job.”

"The Vote of a Lifetime"

by Matt Tepper
5/11/2008 1:04:48 PM

From the Rapid City Journal:

To [Florence Steen], a woman born seven months before her gender won the right to vote in August 1920, seeing Clinton's name on a presidential ballot and marking her vote nearby was a dream realized, Steen's daughter, Kathy Krause, said.

"She was just very happy that day," Krause said. "She really rallied and was sitting up in bed talking to people. That was the best day we've had."

...

"I had asked her if she wanted to vote, and she said, 'Yes, I really would like to vote for Hillary,'" Krause said. "So I filled out the papers. She signed them, and I went to the courthouse and got the ballot."

...

Krause said her mother was a survivor, a quality that Clinton has shown in her life and in the presidential campaign.

"I think there are a lot of similarities between them," Krause said. "My mother certainly doesn't have the wealth or notoriety or reputation. But she's been a survivor, just like Hillary. And whether you like her (Clinton) or not, she's a survivor. You have to respect her for that."
