Election Day is Here!

by David Jacobson, North Carolina Deputy Field Director
5/6/2008 6:57:49 AM

Voters are turning out all over North Carolina to cast their ballots for Hillary. Here is all the information you need to vote for Hillary...

What are the polling hours on Election Day?

Polls will be open on May 6, 2008, from 6:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.

How can I find my voting location?

Click here to find your voting location.

If you need a ride to the polls, please call the following number: 877-447-2408.

When is the Voter Registration Deadline?

Voter registration ended on April 11, 2008.

What if I am an unaffiliated voter?

Voters who are not affiliated with a party (i.e., independents) can vote in the Democratic primary. But voters who are members of another party (e.g., Republicans) cannot.

What kind of ID do I need to bring to the polling place?

Most voters do not need to show ID to vote. But North Carolina requires voters to present ID if they (i) registered by mail on or after Jan. 1, 2003, and (ii) have not voted in person since they registered.

Can I get an absentee ballot?

No. The deadline was April 29. But, if it will be physically difficult for the voter to vote at the polling place, he or she may drive to the polling place and cast a vote from the vehicle. Alternatively, voters who need extra help can obtain assistance just by asking the chief judge at their polling place. If a voter needs assistance, he/she may bring a family member to help him/her.

What are the provisional ballot rules?

Voters may cast provisional ballots if they believe that they are registered to vote but their name does not appear on the county’s official list of registered voters. If a voter votes provisionally because he/she is required to show ID, but lacks ID, he/she may present it at the county board of elections office until May 13 at 11 am. Voters can learn whether their provisional ballot was counted -- click here.

What Amazing Hope for Our Generation!

by David Fiocco
5/5/2008 3:31:53 PM

David is a senior at Duke University and a member of Duke Students for Hillary.

It was the middle of exam week, but when the Clinton campaign called to offer me a ticket to see Hillary speak at the North Carolina Jefferson Jackson Dinner on Friday night, I jumped at the chance. I was excited to see Senator Clinton in person for the first time, but I never imagined how incredibly inspiring she would be.

Over the past months, I have read and watched Senator Clinton take strong stances on the issues that matter most to college students today: making higher education affordable, ensuring we will have health care no matter what job we take, protecting social security for our generation, taking a tough stance against global warming, and guaranteeing equal rights for women and LGBT individuals. Senator Clinton speaks about a new kind of diplomacy, with long-range plans for Iraq, the Middle East, and global coalitions. Never have I heard a candidate present such a well thought-out platform.

Senator Clinton doesn’t just have big ideas. She tells us how she will pay for each proposal and shares her plans for how legislation will pass. When Chelsea Clinton came to Duke a couple of weeks ago, she answered every question the students asked in remarkable detail. The campaign does not pander nor condescend. The Clintons are committed to sharing exactly how we can begin to fix the root causes of inequality and injustice in society.

When I heard Senator Clinton on Friday, I was completely blown away. I knew I would agree with her positions on the issues, and I knew her stories and experiences would be convincing. What really struck me was her deep sense of conviction that was evident as soon as she stepped onto the stage. I felt confidant that she will be a president who would stand up for our values, work with everyone in both parties, and actually get things done. What an incredible blend of passion and pragmatism! You could not help but leave the dinner on Friday night energized with the possibilities Senator Clinton offers.  What amazing hope for our generation!

Hillary Crisscrosses the Tar Heel State

by David Jacobson, North Carolina Deputy Field Director
5/4/2008 3:18:10 PM

On Saturday Hillary crisscrossed the Tar Heel state, attending a town hall hosted by “Momlogic.com” in Cary followed by “Get Out the Vote” events in Wake Forest, Gastonia, and Mooresville. In Cary, Hillary connected with North Carolinians on a personal level, discussing her time in the White House and sharing stories about her family and motherhood. During Hillary’s “Get Out the Vote” events across the state, North Carolinians heard from Hillary on the issues that matter most, including rising gas prices, health care, and how to fix our struggling economy.  Across the state, voters learned about Hillary’s detailed plans for our country, and left knowing that Hillary is the most qualified person to lead our nation.

Volunteer Spotlight: Phyllis & Lindsay Wilson

I want Hillary to be President because...

She is the most qualified person to lead our great nation. She is in tune with the regular people and will fight for our causes. Hillary is dedicated to helping resolve the issues that are affecting many Americans today. Having always voted Republican, this is my first time voting Democrat and I am totally certain that our next president should be Hillary Clinton. After several hours of research on all of the candidates, it was easy for me to make my decision. My daughter Lindsay will be voting for the first time -- she is looking forward to casting her vote for Hillary.

I got involved in the Hillary campaign because...

I wanted to make a difference and share my views on what Hillary stands for and how Hillary will make a difference when she is elected President.

The first thing I did for the Hillary campaign was...

Joined her campaign online, sent e-mails, and made phone calls. Within our circle of friends and family who are devoted Republicans, we have managed to persuade some of them to change their minds and vote for Hillary.

The thing I like best about working for the Hillary campaign is...

The excitement of being involved! We are watching history in the making! Most importantly though, we feel strongly that Hillary is the right choice!

I am going to help Hillary win North Carolina between now and Primary Day by...

Continuing to share my views with anybody that will listen.

Governor Mike Easley sent out the following message:

Help in North Carolina

Dear Friend,

I am supporting Hillary Clinton because she has a passion for improving the lives of all Americans. She will be a president who stands up for people across North Carolina – and this country – every day in the White House.

I know she will get to work immediately making education, the economy and health care her top priorities for our nation. She is ready to lead our nation and has the ability to deliver.

Hillary is a proven leader with the passion for improving the lives of all Americans. She has the experience, fortitude and vision to be the president our country needs at this critical time.

If you agree, I hope you will join me in helping Hillary right here in North Carolina. This weekend, we are doing a big drive all across the state to turn out as many votes as we can for her on Tuesday.

Sign up today to volunteer this weekend and help get out every last vote for Hillary in North Carolina!

I hope to see you soon. Thank you for everything you're doing to help Hillary's campaign.

Very truly yours,

Governor Mike Easley
